Michi Go : Patbingsu ~ Review

Not many Korean Restaurants in Jogja, probably because people in Jogja are not familiar with Korean cuisine, and ussually price is quite expensive because the material is imported from Korea.
Michi Go is a Korean Restaurant that presents unique theme, Michigo open in two places, at Colombo Street and Ambarukmo Mall.

This time, I want to try Patbingsu in Michigo, because I and BF stomach still full, and the wheater is hot, i think ice would be great ^^

Patbingsu is shaved ice mixed with sweetened condensed milk and red beans. In addition, usually there are other fruits such as strawberries, kiwi, apple, etc.. And the top layer is ice cream.

We visited Michi Go branch at Colombo street, the atmosphere is not so crowded, we order at the cashier counter. To ordered, we use PC tablets that are already available on the cashier counter, we choose order as an online shopping site, and after checkout orders, we pay the order at the cashier.

While waiting for the order, we were given a video pager, the shape is like MP4 players, this video pager functionality to play Korean things video, and when our order is ready, the cashier will send a video message to a pager so we take our order to the cashier and return the video pager. At that time, played Larva movie, short animated films from Korea, unfortunately I forgot to take pictures of the video pager.

We ordered 2 Mini Patbingsu, 1 serving for Mini Patbingsu is IDR.17000. My Patbingsu is using Strawberry Ice Cream for topping.

And My BF Patbingsu is using Green Tea Ice Cream for topping.

Patbingsu that we get is exactly same, the difference is only in ice cream topping flavor. We both got a cherry red topping, almonds, ice cream, strawberry, lycee, mandarin orange, red bean and the bottom is shaved ice mixed with sweetened condensed milk. The taste was quite unique, sweet and fresh

During enjoying our Patbingsu, there are some unique things that we noticed :
1. I've been mentioned in the beginning, we ordered using a PC tablet at cashier counter
2. Video pager, to tell us if the orders has been ready
3. We were given a paper placemat contains the Michi Go things, their accounts in social media, the suggestion to mention their twitter account. Michi Go introduce the types of chairs where we could put the bag under the seat (I'm not sure this seat is a good idea, because people are unfamiliar with this, possibility even forgot that the bag is below).
And the suggestion to put the dirty dishes in beside of the kitchen.

This is the unique chairs :

4. Suggestion was also made sticker and taped to the table.

I don't understand, whether in Korea familiar with self-service restaurant like this. There is no waiters who deliver orders or take the dirty dishes

5. Lamp design such as a cutting board

Overall.. we enjoyed to visit and eat at Michi Go ^^

Gochujang (Korean Pepper Paste)

Gochujang

If I ask you, what is the most popular korean foods? I'm pretty sure that most of you will answer Kimchi and Bibimbap hahaha.. And most of you will answer Bulgogi, Jajangmyeon, Toppoki, Kimbab or Patbingsu.

I watch so many korean movie, I saw they eating vibrant red coloured foods, it's seem korean people likes spicy food so much hahaha. So I'm curious and searching tutorial for korean food at Youtube, my favourite channel is Maangchi

From Maangchi channel, I learn that ingredient key to vibrant red coloured food in korean cuisine is Gochujang. What is Gochujang? English name for Gochujang is Korean Pepper Paste, made from Glutinous Rice Powder, Fermented Soybean, Salt and Red Chili Powder, ussually, it naturally fermented in big clay pots outdoors

So I ask my supplier in Korea if she can send me one pack of Gochujang, and she say yes..
Thanx God that this Gochujang didn't break during shipment, I'm affraid that it will break and make all of cosmetic dirty >.<

Gochujang is using in so many popular korean cuisine, like Kimchi, Bibimbap, Toppoki. Korean people like to eat it with rice, meat, or vegetable as sauce. I've been tried Gochujang to make my own Bibimbap. The taste is salty and hot, a bit like spicy tauco sauce, but gochujang taste not too salty like tauco.

CJ Beksul Bap Cheese

The second food ingredient I brought from korea is CJ Beksul Bap Cheese. This is rice seasoning ussually for Onigiri, Porridge or plain white rice. This rice seasoning contains cheese, egg, nori, dried vegetable and sesame seed.

One package contains 3 sachet of seasoning, I think 1 sachet enoguh to seasoning 2 bowl porrige or 2 plate plain white rice.

How about the taste? Delicious i think.. Dominant flavour is cheese, I still can taste a little bit nori, but I can't feel any egg or dried vegetable, althouh the dried vegetable seen so clearly hahaha. How about sesame seed? I only saw a bit of sesame seed

This rice seasoning not only bring variations on your Onigiri, Sushi or Porrige, but it can save your life when you have nothing to eat at frige hahaha

Magnum Infinity ~ Review

I'm a big big big fans of chocolate and ice cream. So of course! I'll review about Magnum Ice Cream. Infinity is a new product from Magnum. The promotions is big enough to get my attentions and quickly search in local store, but I'll have to wait around 1 month until the products distributed in my city. I don't know..but I think this is marketing strategy from Magnum hahaha >.<

This is the promotional image on their website www.mymagnum.co.id

The product descriptions is : Chocolate ice cream with caramel sauce coated with chocolate and cocoa beans. They say the chocolate coating are from Tanzania, let's taste it..

As you can see in the picture, the chocolate coating springkle with small beads, like peanuts. They say its cocoa beans.

Yup, that's cocoa beans, the taste is bitter like a very dark chocolate. This is unique.. mixed with the sweetness of chocolate, and the softness from chocolate ice cream, the cocoa beans doesn't taste bitter at all, but gives a rich chocolate sensations.

This is the inside of Magnum Infinity, after I bite it hahaha. Unfortunately, this ice cream doesn't exactly 100% like in the promotional poster.
In poster, Magnum Infinity have red-choco caramel swirl in the inside, but in the real product, the color of caramel swirl is yellow-beige.

But I think the taste is great, caramel and chocolate ice cream taste very soft, but chocolate with cocoa beans coating gives sharp taste. As ussual... Magnum ice cream are always delicious ^^

Pizza Hut : Cheesy Ria & Cheese Fondue ~ Review

I think the most favourite pizza is from Pizza Hut, because I looovee the melted Mozzarella Cheese in the inside of the bread rim. I'm a big big fans of cheese (maybe because my chinese zodiac is mouse hahaha)

For appetizer, I ordered is Puff Cheese Fondue, this appetizer is Puff Pastry Stick with Cheese Sauce, to keep the Cheese Sauce warm and prevent the sauce thickened, they put small candle in the bottom, just like aromatherapy burner.

Puff Pastry Stick taste good, not too salty and crispy. Cheese Sauce taste delicious, but it's very salty, so I spread the sauce in my pizza, and the pizza taste is more delicious, I think.. Hahaha

For Main Course, I'm curious to try new bread rim from Pizza Hut, that's Cheesy Ria. This new bread rim is combination of two flavors of cheese. The first one is Mozzarella Cheese wrapped with Cheddar Cheese. The second one is Mozzarella Cheese wrapped with chicken seasoning.

This is the poster :

For Pizza topping I choose Blackpepper Beef, contains : Beef, Paprika, Onion and Blackpepper sauce. The taste is delicious, as always.. melted Mozzarella Cheese feel so great in my tounge, Blackpepper Beef taste spicy and salty, perfectly combined with crunchy Paprika. Paprika taste is crunchy and fresh, compare with Indonesian Pepper i ussually eat (Chili), the Paprika is isn't hot at all.

There's nothing I hate from this pizza, although i can't feel the difference between 2 kind of cheese they mentioned in the descriptions.

Situation in Pizza Hut at dinner time always crowded, but they service quite fast, and the waitress always nice and polite. Eating experience in Pizza Hut never disappoint me.

Sop Empal Bu Haryoko Muntilan ~ Review

Empal is spicy curry beef, sometimes serve with spicy brooth, sometimes served dried and cut into pieces.
When i go to Sendangsono with My BF and my friends, (read the story HERE) on the way home we stopped at Muntilan to eat. My friend said there was famous delicious empal soup at Muntilan.

This is the empal soup place, The Empal Soup Bu Haryoko, located next to the Muntilan Temple at Jln Veteran no.9 Muntilan.

This is atmosphere in the restaurant, quite clean and simple

It turns out this place has 2 menus, menu Empal Soup in the morning and Empal Gentong in the afternoon.
Because we get there at afternoon, so we ate Empal Gentong.

Actually Empal Gentong is similar to the Soto Madura I eat, but the meat softer and there is little sweet-savory flavor on meat.

In one portions contents a lot of meats, and empal broth taste so fresh. Price of 1 portion rice + empal + iced tea = IDR 17.000, a little pricey indeed, but comparable to the portions are plentiful and delicious taste

Calzone Express ~ Review

For the fans of Italian Cuisine, you may be familiar with the Calzone. Calzone is a folded pizza, at first glance looks like a clam shell, but I think it is similar to pastel, I do not know whether there is a relationship between a Calzone and Pastel hahaha. But one of the free resources on the internet says that the origin of pastel is little confusing, i think, it could be inspired by Italian Calzone.

Calzone that will be reviewed today is Calzone Express, located at Jln Cendrawasih no.3, Demangan Baru, Yogyakarta.
This is the Calzone Express menu, pretty simple and not expensive :

Atmosphere in Calzone Express

The menu is also written on the board, recently cafes and dining venues decorate their place with chalkboard things.

This is what we get, calzone wrapped in paper.
Serving time is a bit long to wait, because we are there at the dinner hour and the atmosphere is very crowded.

I ordered a Beef Barbeque Baked Calzone, tastes good, like a pizza in general

My BF ordered Cheezy Cheese Baked Calzone, it feels delicious but monotone, because only the content of the Calzone is only cheese.

Things that makes me uncomfortable is because the place is small, and it's hard to park if you bring a car. Crowded atmosphere make serving time is long and the waitress a little less responsive.

The taste of the Calzone is delicious, although the portion is small, not big enough to fill a guy stomach.
Overall it's recomended a try, you may prefer to eat not at dinner time.

Pepper Lunch ~ Review

Warning : This Post Maybe Will Be Bandwidth Killer (15 pcs Image)

Yogyakarta was substantially changed since the first time I came in 2001 ago, now expensive culinary popping everywhere, for example : Pepper Lunch. Maybe for you who live in Jakarta, Pepper Lunch is not that expensive, but the standard of food prices in Jogja, with only IDR 5000 in your hand, you're able to eat, so the Pepper Lunch quite pricey.

Pepper Lunch is a DIY steakhouse franchise restaurant  from Japan, popular in the Tokyo area. There are over 200 restaurants branch in Asia.

Let's take a look at pepper lunch menu :

From the picture, its looks tempting and unique, and Pepper Lunch have a different way of eating. We will get raw meat in the food, and we have to be stirring so the meat is fully cooked and seasoning butter mix well with the rice.

Location Pepper Lunch at Ambarukmo Plaza third floor, there is neon box contains a picture of the menu.

TThere is 1:1 replica of some best-selling menu

This is the food that we ordered:

Curry Beef Pepper Rice With Cheese
I ordered this because i interested with the cheese,
Curry Beef Pepper Rice With Cheese is
the rice that sprinkled with curry powder and mozzarela cheese , and given the raw beef around the rice. The meat will be cooked immediately because of the hot plate is very hot, while flipping through the meat fully cooked, the rice should also be stirred up so the flavors are well mixed.

I feel a little bit disappointed because portions of meat that we get not as much as in the picture, and the cheese only a little.

Beef Pepper Rice
This menu is almost the same as the
Curry Beef Pepper Rice With Cheese, but didn't use curry powder seasoning and mozzarella cheese. I think more delicious Beef Pepper Rice.

When the food came, we had to be careful because the hot plate is very hot, we were given a protective paper around the hotplate.

Protective paper that have instructions on how to eat Pepper Rice

We also ordered Green Tea Ice Cream. it feels like Ice Cone Mc Donald with green tea powder. It feels delicious, it's just that we expect the green tea ice cream that we get, can be more special

Some Javanese decorative on the wall

Posters with Japanese kanji writing

Atmosphere in Pepper Lunch

although the price is quite expensive but it's quite crowded

Don's Kitchen Lempongsari ~ Review

Vouchers Mania!!! We tried to eat at the Don's Kitchen because of mbakdiskon.com discount vouchers, the discounts was not much, only 10% but its okay.

Western restaurant with menus like sausage is being trends in Jogja, the price is not too expensive, let's look at his menu :

I hope my photo is quite clear readable :

We ate here twice, total of menu we try is 4

1. Penne Beurre Blanc
Creamy pasta with chicken, mushroom and cheese, the taste is soo delicious, can you see int he picture the cheese is quite a lot. Too bad the portions is small >.<

2. Grilled Chicken with BBQ Sauce and Pasta Napoletana
Grilled chicken breast portion large and delicious, I feel so full. The BBQ sauce delicious, you can dip the chicken steak pieces to the BBQ sauce. Tomato sauce pasta taste standard, not so special.

3. Cheese Sausage Double with Pasta Beurre Blanc
Cheese Sausage taste delicious, the portions are quite large and Pasta Beurre Blanc is also delicious, unfortunately not given cheese topping over the pasta. Although in the photo looks small, but I feel full

4. Panfried Chicken with Potato Ratatouille
Actually its similar to a grilled chicken steak that I ate before, just replaced pasta with sauteed potatoes, colorful peppers with tomato sauce. The portion so much, taste is also unique in that there are colorful peppers.
