Edamame Bean



Me and my boyfriend like edamame beans so much, we always ordered edamame when we eat at japanese restaurant, if we find it on menu list. Until know, i haven't find where to buy fresh edamame at Jogja, so to substitute it, we buy boiled soybeans as a snack



What is Edamame?
Edamame, the grand soybean. Some people called it Japanese Soybean, because this vegetable is commonly served at sushi bars and Japanese restaurants as a meal starter or appetizer.
In East Asia, edamame has been used for over two thousand years as a major source of protein. Edamame is consumed as a snack, a vegetable dish, used in soups or processed into sweets. As a snack, the pods of edamame are boiled with salted water and when ready, served whole.


Health Benefits of Edamame
Eating edamame beans offers various health benefits. Here is list few of the benefits :

Antioxidants - antioxidants cleanse the body keeping us free from toxins and radicals, which is important. Antioxidants keep the body strong as it helps improve the immune system.

Protein - edamame have very high protein. In fact, it has higher protein content than soya beans. Protein acts as the building block of our body needed in developing strong and healthy muscles and tissues. With its high protein content, Edamame is a perfect alternative to meat ideal for those who are into losing weight because it has all the proteins, vitamins and minerals but without the cholesterol and saturated fats, which on the other hand are present in meats. Edamame is high in amino acids too, which is important to everybody’s health.

Fiber - people need fiber for good digestion and improved metabolism. In addition, fiber also helps keep cholesterol at its healthy level, thus the risk of heart attack is reduced.

Phytoestrogens - Tulane and Xavier Universities’ Center for Bioenvironmental Research claimed that edamame also has Phytoestrogens that helps prevent cancer.

Other than the above-mentioned health benefits of edamame, it also helps prevent cravings. Meaning, you will be free from unhealthy meals because, edamame keeps you full longer. In addition, edamame has anti-inflammatory properties too keeping you safe from inflammatory infections.
